1973 was the year for strange music

Kiss gets their start performing their first concert at the Coventary Club in Queens, and David Bowie says good bye to ‘Ziggy Stardust’ in front of a stunned crowd at the Hammersmith Odeon. In music theatre, The Rocky Horror Picture Show was born.

Frankenstein by Edgar Winter Group

The name of the song came from the way they edited songs in the studio back then – by literally cutting and splicing the tape – they had the tape strung all over the studio – wondering if they would ever put it back together again…one of the group said – man this is like Frankenstein – and the name stuck!

Hi Rob, what a mix of oldies. I had not heard Frankenstein by Edgar Winter Group. They really ROCK!!! I was impressed! And like the others as well. A cool collection.

REALLY dig the facial expressions of the singer in Hocus Pocus by Focus! I cracked up…and yet he is also actually very talented with his voice.

Doctor Rob, you’re killing me. Walk on the Wild Side is one of the greatest rock songs ever.

Great selection of offbeat songs. Two other songs that come to mind are Godzilla by Blue Oyster Cult and One Night In Bangkok by Murray Head.

To the person on BC who doesn’t know who Ziggy Stardust/David Bowie is… I was born in 1983 and even I know! I thought everyone knew David Bowie.

Cool more link love! I wasn’t able to stop by here earlier – technical problems. I am not sure about strange for most of these songs, but it was a breakthrough year for music. Funny, the song that starts out “I remember when rock was young…” was from 1973

A walk on the wild side was pretty racey – yet still aired on most radio stations – “But she never lost her head Even when she was given head” were pretty strog lyrics for 73

A correction on the “Frankenstein” They actually stole the song from the group “New York Dolls” They did not create the song.
