Teaching is my passion.
I love the enthusiasm of students who want to learn.
I chair Lander University’s American Democracy Project, a local chapter of a national effort to motivate students to become more involved in their communities. Pictured above a student and I exhibit Lander’s winning T-shirt slogan entry in a competition sponsored by the NY Times and the American Association of State Colleges and Universities.

The Lander University student newspaper editor and I critique the latest issue of the Forum, which I’ve advised for more than 15 years. Most Forum staff members have gone on to work in the mass communications field; many have become editors. I love emails from student saying they got another promotion. We’re a small university, and we get to know each other. Many students keep in touch.

I volunteer as newspaper advisor at one of our local middle school. This is the first year their newspaper was published online.
I want my students to be ethical, accurate, balanced and fair. I tell them the best complement I can give them as newspaper staffers is that they are careful reporters.
